By Hannah Holbrook
Just off of Rock Prairie Road, amidst green pastureland and quiet neighborhoods, the Brazos Valley’s newest transitional care and rehabilitation center awaits. Whether you are in need of skilled nursing and rehabilitative care to regain your health and strength, or if you require long-term or respite care, come and experience firsthand the excellence that Accel at College Station has to offer. Accel at College Station challenges the status quo by putting a unique fresh and modern spin on senior care. Committed to more than just the physical wellness of their patients and residents, the team at Accel works to ensure that every need, whether it is emotional, social, physical, vocational, intellectual, or spiritual, is met. The calming and stylish atmosphere, the kindness and compassion displayed by every staff member, and the emphasis on relationships, are some of the many things that set Accel apart as a transitional care and rehabilitation facility.
“The first time I came in here, it was actually to visit a resident,” says Marketing Director Jessica Gardner. Though Jessica had worked in the senior care industry for many years, in just one visit, she recognized that there was something unique about Accel. “When I came in, I just fell in love with the place. It was so homey, and so stylish, all while being a skilled nursing facility.” Today she works as Accel at College Station’s Marketing Director. “My whole goal is to let people see what it’s like here. For a lot of people in senior living communities, their biggest fear is going to the hospital and not being able to go home,” explains Jessica. “I really want to show people that there is a beautiful place, a place for them, to be rehabilitated. I want to get rid of that fear. So that when they go to the hospital and the doctor tells them that they need to go through rehabilitation first, they don’t have to fear the unknown. They will have already visited Accel, and they will know there is a beautiful, safe place for them.”
And beautiful it is. Accel at College Station’s campus is gorgeous, inside and out. From the welcoming and inviting décor, to the sunny gardens and courtyards, to the elegant dining halls and the Texas A&M memorabilia woven throughout: everything masterfully ties together to make Accel a home to all who stay there. While the environment is undoubtedly appealing, the quality and character of the staff is by far the most beautiful thing Accel has to offer. Accel’s highly skilled team of therapists, nurses, and doctors, all work together to ensure that the health needs of each patient and resident are met. Employing an exceptional staff is one of the biggest priorities at Accel. “We want our employees to be dependable, encouraging, caring, and loving,” explains Jessica. “They have to have good hearts. They have to have a heart for health care in order to provide good care. If you don’t like your job, you’re not going to be able to provide the best care you can for the patients that are here. Compassion is one of the biggest things we look for.”
“Just knowing that I’m impacting someone’s life is one of the biggest joys of working here. You never know what a person’s feeling. Just coming into their room and smiling and greeting them, and making sure they’re okay, I get to walk away knowing that I changed someone’s life. I feel like I have family here. They are my family.” -Nataki Waldrip, Wellness Director, Accel at College Station

LIFE AT ACCEL
“If it wasn’t for Carly I would not be walking or going home. She is the best. All of the therapists are the best.” –Accel at College Station Patient

Their sophisticated dining program, Dining Your Way, is all about giving patients and residents options when it comes to dining. “We have three dining areas, and they are pretty much just like restaurants,” explains Jessica. “You sit down, a server comes to you, you request your drink, and you are served. You have an appetizer, an entrée, and a dessert.” Dining Your Way’s restaurant style excellence can also be served straight to your room with Accel’s hot cart option. “Sometimes with meal trays, even if they are in a warmer, by the time they make it to the resident’s room, the food can be cold. With our hot cart, we’re able to give hot, fresh food to our residents every time. Dining is a real priority here,” explains Jessica.
Accel’s high standard of excellence doesn’t stop with their delicious menu. Through their Lifetime Wellness Program, Accel at College Station works to ensure that each resident and patient reaches their maximum wellness potential. We try to get our residents and patients to engage in each one of these activities so that they can reach their highest wellness potential,” explains Wellness Director Nataki Waldrip. Some staple activities that residents and patients enjoy include; fitness and exercise classes, aromatherapy sessions, cooking demonstrations, live music and entertainment, community games, worship services, nature walks, movie screenings, Bible studies, gardening classes, family events, community excursions, barbeques, and much more. The team at Accel is continually dreaming up new ways to engage patients and residents. “Now that we have our bus, we’ve been wanting to take them to the Franklin Safari as a group outing,” remarks Nataki. Nataki has a huge heart for seeing patients and residents step into health, wholeness, and community during their time at Accel. “Just knowing that I’m impacting someone’s life is one of the biggest joys of working here. You never know what a person’s feeling. Just coming into their room and smiling and greeting them, and making sure they’re okay, I get to walk away knowing that I changed someone’s life. I feel like I have family here. They are my family,” says Nataki.
