CHI St. Joseph Health Rehabilitation Hospital, A Partnership with HealthSouth®, opened its doors to the Brazos Valley and surrounding areas August of 2016. CHI St. Joseph recognized that there was an exceptional need for better inpatient rehab care in the community, and began searching for a partner that would help make that a reality.
CHI St. Joseph reached out to HealthSouth®, the leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation services across the nation, to bring their expertise and comprehensive, multidisciplinary team approach to the Brazos Valley. This partnership between CHI St. Joseph and HealthSouth® has now made available to the community the best of the best in inpatient rehabilitation care.
What is an inpatient rehab hospital?
Who would benefit from inpatient rehab?
HealthSouth® is much different than nursing home providers in that their multidisciplinary team approach and programs have been proven extremely successful across the country. This specialty hospital provides a higher level of rehabilitative care to patients who are recovering from conditions and want to regain their independence.
What does three hours of therapy look like?
Inpatient rehabilitation provides physical, occupational and speech therapies to strengthen patients so they can return home safely, and happily. Patients receive a minimum of three hours of therapy a day, five days a week. HealthSouth® believes it’s important for a therapy to be functional – re-learning those daily tasks that we take for granted such as dressing, grooming and eating. Complimenting this, they have a state-of-the-art rehabilitation gym powered by a positive, encouraging environment.
How do I or my loved one, become a patient at CHI St. Joseph Health Rehabilitation Hospital, A Partnership with HealthSouth®?
HealthSouth® admits patients seven days a week, and will even provide assessments in your home or doctor’s office – no matter where you are. They also allow direct admissions for patients in ER care, this allows patients to begin their rehab and re-gain independence as soon as possible. HealthSouth® wants to provide the resources for patients to be treated thoroughly and return home safely, faster. The average length of stay for their patients is 11 days, while they aim to have patients home in two weeks or less.
HealthSouth® utilizes a team of rehabilitation specialists whose sole purpose is to provide education to the community about the benefits of an inpatient rehabilitation hospital. The rehabilitation specialists work alongside hospitals, doctor’s offices, assisted living communities and home health agencies to find the most appropriate and beneficial care for a patient in need. You may contact one of HealthSouth®’s rehabilitation specialists directly, or have your physician contact them to get the referral process started immediately.
In short, call HealthSouth® even if you aren’t sure if inpatient rehab is the next step. Their admissions team will gladly discuss your options and the care you’ll receive under their expertise. Better yet? You can come and tour the facility at any time without an appointment.
What can I expect from CHI St. Joseph Health Rehabilitation Hospital, A Partnership with HealthSouth®?
You can expect to be treated with the utmost compassion, expertise and support from HealthSouth®’s team of physicians, nurses, therapists, case managers and many others. Beyond that, HealthSouth® wants you to feel at home while under their care. They ask patients and families to bring in clothes and any other essential belongings they wear or use on a daily basis. This brings normalcy and comfort to patients during treatment – it makes them feel at home.
“We are trying to set up, in our hospital, what patients normally do at home,” said Amy Gray, CEO of CHI St. Joseph Health Rehabilitation Hospital, a Partnership with HealthSouth®. “ Part of their 3 hours of therapy is simply those daily, functional activities such as walking and dressing. We focus on those things we do every day that are taken for granted. It’s about function. So, if a patient goes to church every Sunday and needs to get up three steps, we need to make sure they do three steps up and three steps down and know the safety measures to perform that task.”
From the start your rehabilitation, led by not one person but a team of professionals, you are guided with a personalized treatment plan targeting your specific needs and goals. This comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach helps you reach your highest level of recovery.
Families are encouraged to be a part of rehabilitation and recovery with HealthSouth®’s team by receiving the help and training they need for their loved one’s continued independence once they are back home.
