Giving Back Directory 2023

BRAZOS LIFE: GIVING BACK DIRECTORY 2023

Selfless service is something that is woven into the fabric of our community. The Brazos Valley is one big family, committed to extending a hand to members that find themselves in need. We bear the weight of life’s burdens on unified shoulders and our community is stronger for it.

We have compiled a list of resources and organizations helping families across the Brazos Valley.

Twin City Mission
After more than 50 years of providing a home for the homeless, being a friend to the friendless, and giving hope to the hopeless, Twin City Mission remains a foundation of support for those in need. Whether it is shelter, meals, clothing, household items, or whatever, Twin City Mission operates on the premise of not seeing through each other, but rather, seeing each other through.

Ways you can get involved:
• Support Financially: twincitymission.org/monthly-giving
•Donate Goods: Twin City Mission has five donation centers. For center information, visit twincitymission.org/gifts-in-kind or call 979.822.7511
• Shop: at any of the four Twin City Second Chance store locations
• Internships / Volunteering: twincitymission.org/volunteer
• Sign up for an account via smile.amazon.com and kroger.com, and for every dollar spent, Amazon and Kroger will donate to Twin City Mission.

Department of Family & Protective Services
The Texas Department of Family & Protective Services works with communities to protect children, the elderly, and people with disabilities from abuse, neglect, and exploitation through investigations, services/referrals, regulations, and prevention programs. You can help your family or DFPS’s mission through programs such as:

Family-Based Safety Services (FBSS) can help avoid the need to remove children from their homes – or make it possible for the children to return home – by strengthening the ability of families to protect their children and reducing threats to their safety. CPS uses in-home services to help families maintain a stable and safe home and to reduce the risk of future abuse or neglect. FBSS services include family counseling, crisis intervention, parenting classes, substance abuse treatment, domestic violence intervention, and day care.

Family Group Decision Making (FGDM) has a variety of practices to work with and engage children, youth, and families in safety and service planning and decision making.

Parent Collaboration Group (PCG) provides a way to include birth parents in our ongoing efforts to review and improve CPS. As clients, they bring a unique and valuable perspective on how to improve services to families and children. Local DFPS staff partner with parent liaisons to enhance services and communication between the agency and families getting CPS services.

Responsible Fathering Fathers are a critical component of the family, and a father’s involvement in the lives of his children can be essential to their success as they deal with life from day to day. The goal of Responsible Fathering is to provide men and their families with support and services to help them be fully involved dads.
