What’s New in Wedding Entertainment?

At DJ Franco Events, we have over ten years of experience providing entertainment. We provide our services at hundreds of weddings each year of every style and size. So, when Brazos Valley Bride asked us “What’s new in wedding entertainment?” here’s what we had to say:
SMALLER WEDDINGS
COVID-19 has affected us all in different ways. Over 2021 and into 2022 we have seen many couples slim down their guest list in part because of COVID restrictions. That doesn’t mean these small weddings are any less fun! Although the weddings are small, they are also more intimate. Couples inviting their closest friends and family to capitalize on the limited space has created a uniquely personal atmosphere for celebrating their special day! Less guests means a smaller venue, more food, and a larger budget to spend on extras that make for an exciting and memorable wedding! That brings us to the next biggest change we’re seeing in 2022 weddings – blowout weddings.
BLOWOUT WEDDINGS
Most of the weddings we have seen this year have all been aiming for the same thing: festival. With a larger budget from a smaller wedding, couples have been going all out on the extras, and most importantly, their entertainment! This means more music, more lights, more special effects, more things to do, and different ways to have fun at their wedding. We have seen couple after couple spend the extra dollar on luxurious getaway vehicles, big special effects packages, unique extras like photo booths, and anything else they can get their hands on to entertain their close friends and family on their wedding day. Weddings like these only happen once in a lifetime!
NEW SERVICES
You might be wondering what the newest, coolest, high-tech stuff hitting the dance floor is. We’re here to tell you! The hottest new items we’ve seen in 2022 so far have been bubble haze machines, LED dance floors, and 360 photo booths.
The bubble haze machine is a must. This little machine has been blowing away couples everywhere it goes! Mostly we see it on the dance floor, as it rains bubbles filled with smoke down onto the crowd. These little bubbles can turn any grown adult into a curious child as everyone is in awe of how they pop into a wisp of smoke (they also look great in pictures).
The LED dance floor has also seen a lot of success this year. It’s a great way to take your wedding from a 10 to a 20, and it will easily get your guests out of their seats and onto the dance floor!
Another crowd favorite has been the 360-Photo Booth. You might have seen it recently at the CMA Awards. This photo booth is a red carpet, celebrity experience. Unlike a normal photo booth, which is a walk-up, front-facing camera, the 360-Photo Booth is an experience you step into. The 360-photo booth started appearing a few years ago but is making its grand debut in 2022 as couples and celebrities alike rush to experience this new type of all-encompassing video.
MUSIC PLANNING
The final new thing we’re seeing in entertainment is a change in the way couples plan their wedding music. Traditionally, DJ’s, musicians, and live entertainment would take paper requests – filling out a clipboard or writing a song on a piece of paper was the only way to communicate, “I want to hear this song.” As the world is moving towards more sustainable practices, and with the modernization of technology, the hottest new way to plan your music is through an app. Using a smartphone, you can now easily select (months, even years in advance) exactly what song you want to hear, and when you want to hear it. This makes it easy for you and your entertainment to collaborate and ensure that your wedding day sounds exactly how you want it to. We’re also seeing a rise in the popularity of the DO NOT PLAY list. There’s nothing worse than hearing a song you don’t like on the biggest day of your life. Remember, it’s important to choose a DJ that is going to read the crowd and play the music that is going to keep you and your guests on the dance floor all night long.
