Renowned 19th century American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once said that “Music is the universal language of mankind.”
No matter the genre, music, and even more so making music, brings people together and crosses divides in a way few other things can. If you visit the Meyer Senior and Community Center on Tuesday afternoons, you will see this first-hand with the Jam Session group.
Members of the group have found connection and healing through the power of music, and the inclusive atmosphere fosters a place where all skill levels are welcomed to belong.
“I have to be here,” organizer Jack Dacus said. “Something about it just speaks to your soul.”
