Questions by Hannah Holbrook | Answers by Amanda Tyson
Q: Why did Century Square decide to come to / develop in College Station?
A: Midway is the developer of Century Square. The Midway leadership team, Chairman, CEO, all of our Executive Vice Presidents, and many team members are former students of Texas A&M and we are deeply engaged in the University’s culture and vision for the Brazos Valley. As students and parents of Aggies, we saw a need for Century Square. We wanted to bring this experience to the Brazos Valley, not just for visitors but for the people who live in the Brazos Valley.
Q: How do you personally feel being a part of such a successful and innovative business group like Century Square? (what is your role, etc.)
A: Before I started my position at Century Square, I was visiting the property all the time. I’ve lived in College Station for 5 years and have always wished a development like this would make it out here. Now that I am on the team, I am dedicated to making this a tremendous experience for the people of the Brazos Valley. As the marketing associate, I handle all marketing initiatives such as events, social media, PR, collateral, and website management.
Q: In 3 words, how would you describe Century Square and why?
A: Food, fashion, and fun. Those are the special ingredients that go into a district where people can live, work and play and rarely have to get in their cars to drive anywhere.
Q: Century Square seems to have started a trend in BCS with the all-inclusive shopping/dining/recreation model – what sets Century Square apart from those who may try to emulate your success now, and in the future?
A: We are happy BCS is gaining more options because we live here too! What will set Century Square apart is the quality of all the businesses who make up this special place and the way they all work together to create a remarkable experience. Our Midway team focuses on hospitality, and we’re always learning how to improve on what we deliver, too.
Q: Describe an ideal/typical day at Century Square. What would that day look like for residents of B/CS?
A: A perfect day at Century Square starts with waking up in your apartment at 100 Park. After brunch at one of our tasty breakfast restaurants such as MESS Waffles, The Canteen, or Sweet Paris, you might walk to work, if you’re lucky enough to work for one of the businesses that office here. If you’re not off to work, you could enjoy a luxurious spa appointment at Galleria Day Spa, with options including facials, massages, hair, and nail appointments. Afterward, you can start shopping at the unique retailers amongst Century Square! Hemline, Runway Seven, Lululemon, Merge, King Ranch Saddle Shop, and Galleria Day Spa all carry different brands you know and love and are only steps from each other. After all that shopping its time to kick your feet up at Star Cinema Grill and watch one of Hollywood’s latest blockbusters with one of the endless food and drink options on their menu. After the movie, eat at one of our delicious eateries and head to The Green for some live music! If you’ve brought the kiddos, end the night with a treat and stop at Subzero, Tiffs Treats, or HeySugar! If you opted to leave the kids at home create your own bar crawl at Mo’s Irish Pub, The Canteen, and 1791 Whiskey Bar! For a fine dining experience in a relaxed atmosphere, Porter’s is a wonderful choice. The best part about Century Square is that there’s something for everyone, so you could always replace brunch with a workout at Orange Theory Fitness or end up spending the night at one of our boutique hotels The George or Cavalry Court!
Q: With tons of restaurants, shopping, community events, live music, and entertainment, Century Square is quickly becoming a hub for fun here in the Brazos Valley. What is Century Square’s heart and vision for the role it will play in the community?
A: This community has so many wonderful traditions and such a great spirit. We wanted to complement that by creating a special place where families can enjoy being together, or couples can celebrate special occasions, or residents can relax and unwind with friends. We welcome students, too, but we felt there were many options for them already and didn’t really see a need to duplicate what was already being done well by others. At Midway, our purpose is to enrich people’s lives, and happy memories are what enriches our lives the most. We want to build places where people can create memories, they cherish all their lives.
Q: Looking forward towards 2019, what are some things that community members can get excited about? New stores, events, etc.
A: 2019 holds a lot of fun here at Century Square. You can expect new retail, restaurants, and more! Sabi Boutique is opening a second BCS location and Grass Stains is opening its first in BCS. Both shops are locally owned. Keep an eye out on our website for press releases as well as our social media to follow along with construction. We are continuing our live music series Grooves on The Green every Friday & Saturday featuring country, pop, and jazz artists. Other exciting news is our expansion of Sunday Night Live with live music every Sunday dedicated to inspirational music. You can check out our website for more events such as Coffee & Cars, Yoga on The Green, Discovery on The Green, Trivia on The Green, and more!
