Tickets are now on sale for Montopolis: The Living Coast, appearing at The Queen Theatre on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 2 and 6 p.m. The Living Coast performance combines original music, live narration, and cinematic images of the Texas gulf coast. Surfers and sailors, shrimpers and oilmen, poets and scientists all share their stories about this complicated region of serene beauty, vast industry, and incredible contradictions.
.
Led by composer Justin Sherburn, Montopolis combines country, folk, and rock styles into modern classical arrangements the Austin Chronicle has called “stunning” and “transcendent”. The group produces multi-media events that combine live music with video and interactive story telling. The musicians include members of the Austin Symphony, Okkervil River, The Polyphonic Spree and the Tosca String Quartet.
.
“We are thrilled to be able to bring this presentation to the community,” said Sandy Farris, executive director of the Downtown Bryan Association. “This event has been selling out performances across Texas. The Queen is a great venue for this particular style of multi-media presentation.”
.
Montopolis is a member of the Texas Touring Roster, a group of performing arts companies and artists recognized by the Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA). The TCA is providing support for the performances.
.
Tickets are $15. Two performances at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
