Lesser-Known Unique And Cool Subscription Boxes
Article by Lizzie West
With the holidays coming up, subscription boxes are a really cool way to gift your friends and family with something they’ll love. And who are we kidding, this is a great way to treat yourself, too! We all know about the bigger, more hyped subscription boxes, but here are a few you may or may not be aware of.
This is a clothing subscription box that is known for being more affordable than some of the bigger brands. They have clothing and accessories that are sent either every two or four weeks to try on and keep what you love. The shipping fee of $9.78 is also a credit you can apply to any items you decide to keep. Before ordering, you’ll fill out a profile to help determine what to send and what your style is. If you don’t love anything in the box, you would lose the credit, but their customer service is fantastic, and will usually work with you to either roll the credit over or make notes in your account. Just don’t forget to mail the items back by the deadline and also give feedback on what you received!
The geek in your has probably heard of Lootcrate. BUT – did you know – you can specify themes or hobbies in your crate. They have everything from general geek crates, to gaming-specific crates, and even themes like Harry Potter, Anime, and even Horror, you’re certain to find something that fits into your lifestyle and aesthetic. (or a gift for others…sure) They range from about $10-50 per crate and you can get crates that only have attire, or even have games! This is a perfect gift for all your quirks friends and family that are crazy about a fandom.
A truly unique box for the sarcastic and snarky people in your life. Each month includes a specific theme – October’s theme is “Feeling Stabby”, how appropriate for the upcoming holiday. They have 3 subscription options: t-shirt only ($15.95), BOX Subscription ($34.95), or the BIG BOX Subscription ($49.95 – includes both t-shirt & BOX). They include XS-3X sizing for the clothing and have a variety of bags, cups, cosmetics, stationery items, etc. in the BOX subscription. One of the things the creators pride themselves on is supporting lesser-known artists and designers. *Note: Items in this BOX may include adult language, so it is deemed not “kid-friendly” in general.
Color Me Monthly by Boxometry
An minor obsession with nail polish is nothing to be ashamed of. For just $7 monthly, you can get that nail polish fix. With three ways to pay for your subscription, Color Me Monthly sends one nail polish that is “non-toxic, carcinogen-free, cruelty-free, vegan, and eco-friendly.” So, you can feed the need for new hues each month with confidence that you aren’t supporting an unhealthy product OR breaking the bank! Side note: I bet this would be a fantastic Christmas gift for a teen that loves painting her nails!
If you love home decor and getting into the season, this would be the right box for you. At about $80 quarterly, it is filled with 6-9 full-size decor items to spruce your space. Boxes may include “decorative trays, tabletop décor, throw pillow covers, table runner, small DIY projects, printed art, and more.” And each box has a booklet that provides inspiration for the items sent as well. They also have a member’s shop on the site where you can expand your collection even more. I have even heard that there are options to add things like a Halloween box. They have an option to pay quarterly or annually ($287.99 – with a savings of about $32 dollars each year). Sign up for one and see if they get it right. Afterall, where are you going to get 6-9 brand new decor items for only $80 – without the hassle of even leaving home?
