BVSO Presents ‘Brazilian’s Best’ on March 2

The Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra™ continues its 43rd season with Brazilian’s Best on March 2, 2025. Music Director Marcelo Bussiki will lead the BVSO in a vibrant celebration of Brazilian music, featuring fellow countryman and guest artist Diego Caetano on piano performing Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 3. The program also includes Three Brazilian Dances by Camargo Guarnieri and a lively selection of Brazilian pop and bossa nova favorites, including Tom Jobim’s iconic The Girl from Ipanema.

Pianist Diego Caetano has performed with renowned conductors such as Michael Palmer, Paul Hostetter, and Neil Thomson, and has appeared at prestigious festivals including the Grand Teton Music Festival, Louisiana International Piano Series, and Brasília’s International Music Festival. An advocate of contemporary music, he has premiered works by Robert Spillman, Anne Guzzo, and Marlos Nobre. Caetano has earned top prizes in over fifty national and international competitions, including the Bonn Prize International Music Competition and Bucharest Pro Piano International Competition, receiving special awards for his interpretation of Brazilian and Spanish composers. As a member of Duo Lispector and Resch-Caetano Duo, he has released several recordings, including French Connection and Schubert’s Winterreise. A dedicated educator, Caetano is an Assistant Professor of Piano at Sam Houston State University, co-founder of the Ávila International Music Festival in Spain, and a Shigeru Kawai Artist, holding degrees from the University of Colorado, University of Wyoming, and Universidade Federal de Goiás.
