The Arts Council Hosts Summer Classes

The Arts Council of Brazos Valley (ACBV) will continue it’s summer art class program through the beginning of August; this includes Kids Summer Art Camps and Saturday Adult Art Classes!
Kids Summer Art Camps:
We are beginning Week 2 of camps and classes: this week for Summer Art Camps we have Jessica Horvath’s Art Adventure from 8:30am – 12pm for Ages 7-11 where You can go on an art adventure! Each day you will learn about a new artist and create art inspired by them. We also have Jessica Steels’ Music Jamboree from 12:30pm – 4pm for Ages 5-7 where you can learn about music!! During this class, we’ll be making our own instruments and moving and grooving to the beat!
Here’s what we having coming up:
Week 3: Monday, June 21st TO Friday, June 25th, 2021
Jessica Horvath: Paint Party
8:30am – 12pm; Ages 7-11
Paint everyday, all day! You will paint each day, trying different kinds of paints and techniques. You will even get to double dip your paint!
Brandi Walden: Incredible Art
12:30pm – 4pm; Ages 6-11
From drawings, paintings and sculpture come and make something new everyday!
Week 4: Monday, June 28th TO Thursday, July 1st, 2021
Jessica Horvath: Hands on Art
8:30am – 12pm; Ages 7-11
Experience art built with your hands! You will create sculpture, collage, quilling, weaving and printmaking. What will you build?
Brandi Walden: Paint along & Paper Making
12:30pm – 4pm; Ages 6-11
Come paint along just like those fun workshops and create your own paper using recycled paper!
Week 5: Monday, July 5th TO Friday, July 9th, 2021
Jessica Steels: Karaoke Party
8:30am – 12pm; Ages 7-10
Turn up the mic and dance! We’ll be singing popular music together while working on our best dance moves! Every class ends with a group performance!
Brandi Walden: All About Drawing
12:30pm – 4pm; Ages 6-11
Come and learn to draw people, animals and the world around! We’ll learn new techniques and try different mediums all while having fun!”
Week 6: Monday, July 12th TO Friday, July 16th, 2021
Rose Santos: Art Around the World
8:30am – 12pm; Ages 6-11
We will explore art around the world focusing on famous artists, traditions and cultures each day of camp to create landscape paintings, sugar skulls, collages and more!
Brandi Walden: Printmaking & Monster Pottery
12:30pm – 4pm; Ages 6-11
Make a whistle that you can actually play or sound monster for your phone using clay, then learn about the different ways to printmake!

Saturday Adult Art Classes:
This weekend our Saturday Adult Art Class is Beginners Watercolor Lesson, Part II with Chris Wilson, this Saturday, June 19th from 1pm-4pm. For $90, you can be part of a two-part, 3 hour class introducing watercolor as a medium, watching a demonstration, and creating a stained-glass window painting over the course of both sessions. No drawing skills or previous experience required.

Saturday, June 26th
Introduction to Life Drawing with Trevor Coopersmith
1pm-4pm
$40
Basic fundamentals to understanding how to draw the human body. Gesture, structure and anatomy of the figure, learning to draw using movement and fluidity. Live model provided. (Figure Drawing Workshop).
Saturday, July 10th
Built by Hand: Coil Building Cups with Jacob Jimerson
1pm-4pm
$50
In this workshop, you will create your own one-of-a-kind cup using the simple method of coil building. Additionally, you will learn the basics of functional pottery like the anatomy of pots and the method of pulling a handle. Cups will be picked up several weeks after class due to the process of firing and glaze.

Natural Science Illustration with Arienne Boley

Natural science illustration combines the beauty of nature with the precision of scientific observation. Working in a traditional format the class will create a poster from their study of unique natural objects through observation
Saturday, July 24th
Paper Quilling with Apinya Srikhwanthong
1pm-4pm

This art class will be taught by former Navasota Artist in Residence, Apinya Srikhwanthong. We will learn basic shapes of quilling and how to roll, shape, and glue them together. Students will experiment with strips of paper and decorative designs.
Saturday, July 31st
Color me a Rainbow; Pastel Portraits with Jami Bevans
1pm-4pm
$40
Jami Bevans will show you how to use all the colors in the rainbow as an underpainting of pastels to create more realistic skin tones. Practice first on gray bogus paper to get the idea, then transfer knowledge to creating your own portrait. You are encouraged to bring a printed photo of yourself, friend, or family member.
Saturday, August 7th
Bookbinding with Lisa Urban
1pm-4pm
$45
In this class students will get to design their own covers then learn two basic bookbinding techniques – Japanese Stab binding and Coptic binding. Students will walk away with a small journal and a large sketchbook.
