Super Easy DIY Non-Toxic Playdough!
Recipe By Lizzie
If you have little ones, or maybe you just need something to de-stress and work out your own frustrations, playdough can work wonders. And you don’t even have to brave the stores to get it. You likely have everything you need right now to make it yourself. You probably need a break from puzzles anyway. Here’s an easy way to make playdough that you can use over and over again! We looked up a few recipes on Pinterest and through trial and error, made modifications to create a super fast and easy recipe!
1&1/2 cup plain flour
1/4 cup table salt
1/2 cup hot water
2 Tablespoons cooking oil
Food coloring of choice (gel colors are great for a vibrant result)
Directions:
-Mix dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl
-Add food coloring to your hot water. Feel free to add more than you think so you can get the color payoff you need. (it’s more difficult to get a consistent blend of color if you try to add more later)
-Carefully pour the tinted hot water into the dry mix, then add the oil and mix. (this may be a good step to SHOW the kids since this water will be too hot to handle – safety first!)
-Once it has cooled enough to handle, turn the mixture onto a clean, dry work surface.
-Get out all your stress by kneading to your heart’s content. The longer you knead, the smoother the dough will get. If it still seems a little sticky, just add a little flour at a time and keep kneading it until everything is incorporated.
-Play away! And store it in an airtight container so it doesn’t dry out. When it does inevitably dry out (it will), you can just make more in any color you want!
To make it last longer, store in a ziptop bag and airtight container when it’s not in use!
