Logan and I met, while we were both attending Texas A&M University. Like every good Aggie love story goes, it started in a bar. In 2007, he was a bartender at the Fox and Hound, and I was serving tables at Texas Roadhouse. After a long shift, my friends and I would head over to the Fox and Hound to wind down after a busy night. Logan says he can remember the first time he saw me come in. Before long, the Fox and Hound bartenders were coming into Roadhouse before their shifts, and we were Fox and Hound regulars after our shifts. Logan finally got up the nerve to ask me out for a “real date” with both of us on the same side of the bar. That was the start of a seven-year love story.
Of course falling in love is a tricky thing sometimes, the heart and mind aren’t on the same page. Like every great love story, there were ups and downs, but of course it came to a happy ending. October 2009, we started a long distance relationship and two and a half years later we made a huge leap and bought a house and moved in together. After two years, (what seemed like a lifetime to me) on a trip to San Francisco, Logan surprised me with a ring and proposal at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge in front of my father and sisters.
After all the pictures and Facebook engagement posts, the reality hit me, I had to plan a wedding. Like every other girl, I had dreamed of planning my wedding. Of course, only a brave few plan the biggest day of their life while in their last year of law school, while having three different internships planned as well.
Logan and I decided to get married in the Bryan/ College Station area, because as with every Aggie, B/CS holds such a special place in our hearts and memories. It was also a good geographic choice, because B/CS is halfway between each of our childhood homes and many friends still live in the area. Plus, what Aggie doesn’t want an Aggie wedding?
We picked Astin Mansion as our venue, because of the vintage, antique setting of the house and lovely grounds. It’s proximity to the cities of historic downtown Bryan and vibrant College Station was perfect. I was terrified planning a wedding from four hours away, but the Mansion staff was super accessible for anything and everything we needed. They did not dismiss the nervous bride I was, instead they explained how and why things would work.
From arriving on site to see the staff working tirelessly decorating and arranging the venue for our ceremony and reception to making us comfortable and happy seemed to be as important to the staff as the physical preparation work that had to be done. Clearly they care about the people involved and not just the strategy of “making it happen.”
Our wedding went off without a hitch, and we left the Astin Mansion that night as a married couple. We could not have been happier with how everything went. We are excited for the journey ahead and I found my happily ever after!
