The Sexual Assault Resource Center (SARC) is honored to stand with survivors on April 29, 2023 as we shatter the silence and break the stigma at our Shatter: A Survivor Fashion Show. This show, presented by Bock Realty Group, will bring light to sexual assault survivors’ rights and awareness to the shame and stigma that is often felt in the aftermath of trauma. This event will feature survivors and advocates representing clothing worn during a sexual assault to ultimately break the stigma that clothes do not matter and do not give consent.
In fashion, the question of “What Were You Wearing?” celebrates creativity, identity, and status. For survivors of sexual assault, this question blames them for the violence that happened to them and adds to the shame and burden felt by many survivors. SARC stands with survivors every day through counseling, advocacy, and crisis intervention. In 2022, we served 526 survivors, a 39% increase from 2021.
“It is our privilege to stand with survivors and advocates on April 29th as we shatter the silence around sexual violence,” said Lindsey LeBlanc, SARC Executive Director. “We invite the community to join us in standing with survivors and advocates as we showcase that clothes don’t matter in this one-of-a-kind fashion show.”
This event will be at 5:30 p.m. on April 29th, 2023 at The Shirley & Joe Swinbank ’74 Agrilife Center on campus. Cocktails and light bites will be served during the show. This event is generously sponsored by Bock Realty Group, CR- Brazos Valley, Steve Tinkle, Urban Cowgirl, Ashley Lindsey Photography, Kasey S Consulting, Premiere Events, Row House College Station, Sabi Boutique, and Savage Diva. Space is limited. To reserve a ticket or sponsor the event, community members can select a ticket on the donation page. Donations are collected through this secure link.
