We met sophomore year at Texas A&M while at the Texas Hall of Fame, dancing with several mutual friends. After being paired for dance lessons, we started talking and realized we were both in mechanical engineering together. The more we studied for classes together, the more I started falling for his smarts and charm. We started dating our senior year and continued our relationship after graduation. After another year and a half, we took a weekend trip disguised as a birthday celebration. We had a great birthday dinner Friday night at a fun Austin restaurant with a friend. We woke up early the next morning so John could fit in a nice fishing trip on our visit. It was very cold, so we grabbed the hot tea and blankets and headed to the dock. It was an exciting morning, a beautiful lake view with a chill in the air and John caught a fish! When I was about ready to give up on the morning, John “forgot” something in the car and had to go get it. He came back seeming flustered, but empty handed. He wanted a picture before we left so I relented. A picture was snapped, a cue was given, and John turned to me, got down on one knee, and popped the question!! Of course, I said yes! The cold air was quickly forgotten and replaced by excitement and celebration.
The morning of the big day, we were both bundles of nerves, but very excited to start our lives together. Our wedding ceremony took place at St. Mary’s amongst many friends and family, some who traveled several states to celebrate with us. Although the cold and rain invaded much of the week before, the sun made its way out just in time for everyone to take their seats. The mass and decorations were beautiful and the reception at Pebble Creek was nothing short of fun. Our year of planning and preparation really paid off, and thanks to the love and support of all our loved ones, plus the help of our local vendors, everything went perfectly!
