– Our Story –
Brett and I met while working at Freebirds in 2008. I was finishing up my degree at Texas A&M University and Brett had just joined the store as my new boss. We butted heads at first, but after working together and getting more familiar, we decided to start dating. 6 ½ years later we were still loving every second of figuring out life together.
Just before Christmas 2014, I was coming home after a ½ day at work and was ready for vacation. I expected for Brett, his son, and I to grab some lunch and start getting ready for our guests to arrive (we were hosting Christmas for my family). Little did I know…I walk into the house and Brett signals to his son, Ashton, and he hops up and walks to another room. Then Brett tells me that an ornament was dropped off earlier and he wanted to wait and open it together. “How sweet”, I thought, “but why wait? Just put it on the tree and let’s get to lunch!” I open the box and inside I find a beautiful blue and silver ornament with the word, “Me?” written on it. I said, “Me? I don’t get it.” I turn the ornament around and he had written in silver marker, “Will You Marry Me?” Getting down on one knee he began to say very sweet things (to be honest I really have no idea what he said because I was so filled with emotion). Of course, I start bawling! And IT WAS PERFECT! He picked out the most beautiful ring – more gorgeous than I ever imagined! As soon as I said yes, Ashton pops out from behind the couch where he had been hiding (videotaping the whole thing), and said YAY, giving me a big hug with his dad. I couldn’t imagine a better or more intimate proposal! And it meant so much to me that Ashton was involved!
We planned the wedding for months and it turned out perfectly! It was windy and slightly chilly that day, but the sun was out and we were joined by all our family and friends for a beautiful ceremony. I was not nervous at all, just overflowing with joy that I was about to marry the love of my life!! We had so much fun at our reception, too. It was an elegant-classic style, a romantic first dance to “At Last”, goofy hiccups with our bouquet and garter tosses (Oops! But it was a good laugh) and some good ol’ fun on the dance floor. We actually were able to get EVERYONE out of their seats for a “dance through the ages”. It was a blast! We ended as any good Aggie does with the Aggie War Hymn, WHOOP! Then Brett and I set off for a night at the Messina Hof Villas. It all went by so fast but it was such a dream and I would not change A THING about the best day of our lives!
