Make A Splash And Some Cool Summer Cash
($12 An Hour!) As A Lifeguard
Information + Photo courtesy of College Station Parks & Recreation
For many, summers are filled with swimming and spending sunny afternoons around the water. For the Parks and Recreation Department, it’s about making sure our local pools are safe places for residents, visitors, and families to relax and have fun.
Unfortunately, water activities can be risky.
Children under four years old have the highest drowning rates, most occurring in swimming pools. Another eight receive emergency care for non-fatal drowning for every child who dies from drowning.
At Adamson Lagoon and Cindy Hallaran Pool, your kids’ safety is in the capable hands of our trained lifeguards.
The chance to help others — and maybe even save a life — leads many to become lifeguards. Some eventually even pursue it as a profession. Other significant benefits are developing lifelong friendships and realizing you can genuinely make a difference.
Our pool employees use their first aid and water rescue skills long after leaving our department. For example, the daughter of a past pool manager is alive because of the skills he learned here.
In addition to watching over families at play, our lifeguards also give swimming lessons, teach safety classes, and coach youth swim teams. If you love teaching and swimming – and know your swim strokes — we encourage you to become a coach or instructor.
We’re hiring lifeguards for our pools, instructors for swim lessons, and coaches for the Tsunami Swim Team. Pay starts at $12 an hour, and you must be at least 16 years old.
If you’re not certified, American Red Cross certification programs are available. If you’re hired, the cost of your certification is covered or reimbursed.
