Local Youth Give Back at the United Way Youth Leadership Cabinet’s Day of Caring

BRYAN, TX (Mar. 2) – The United Way of the Brazos Valley’s Youth Leadership Cabinet held their annual Day of Caring volunteer event on Saturday, Mar. 2. The Youth Leadership Cabinet is a group of high school students who work to connect, serve and lead in their community. A vital way they make an impact is through their annual Day of Caring volunteering event. At Day of Caring, the Youth Leadership Cabinet members complete service projects across Bryan and College Station.
At this year’s Day of Caring, twenty-one students volunteered at three project sites. Students were able to get their hands dirty while landscaping for Bryan College Station Habitat for Humanity. They also cleaned up the playground at Family Promise of Bryan-College Station and built a ramp for a disabled community member with the Texas Ramp Project.
“It’s super rewarding to actually meet the people that you’re helping,” said one Allen Academy student volunteer. During the school year, the Youth Leadership Cabinet raises funds which they grant to local nonprofit organizations like the Bryan College Station Habitat for Humanity, Family Promise of Bryan-College Station and the Texas Ramp Project. In 2018, the Youth Leadership Cabinet granted $14,500 to 20 nonprofit organizations serving the Brazos Valley. The Youth Leadership Cabinet strives to lead the way by making connections, serving the community, and developing future leaders in the Brazos Valley. The Youth Leadership Cabinet is made up of students from Allen Academy, A&M Consolidated High School, Bryan Collegiate High School, Bryan High School, College Station High School, College View High School and Rudder High School.
