Believe it or not we met on the infamous dating app, Tinder. After graduating from Texas A&M in 2009, I moved to Houston. Tired of relationships, I was looking for blog material and joined tinder. Christopher had recently moved from his home state of Wyoming to work for the University of Houston football team and was looking to meet people. In October 2014, a small town boy with an extremely busy schedule met a city girl on a Tuesday night at a local Irish pub for a beer and foosball. That night I texted my best friend saying, “I’m going to marry him”. He asked me out the next morning, and the rest is history. Nine months later, Christopher set up a romantic evening that I came home to from work. Finding my favorite flowers, a sweet note, and a dress that I thought I had picked out online for my twin sister weeks prior. Little did I know that my twin sister had been in on it the whole time. Christopher took me to our favorite place for dinner, a quaint, but gorgeous old home that had been turned into the perfect little Italian restaurant. Since Christopher is one of those rare hopeless romantic guys, his grand gestures didn’t tip me off. After the meal, he blindfolded me and took me to our next destination. After arriving, Christopher took off the blindfold and I saw that we were at our favorite little hang out in the Heights, Onion Creek. As we walked inside, Christopher said he had invited a few friends. When I saw my friends I was confused because there was a cake at the end of the table. So I turned to ask Christopher whose birthday I had forgotten, but before I could finish he was on his knee with the most unique ring!
Our wedding day was a beautiful and bittersweet one. Three months prior to the wedding, I had unexpectedly lost my Papa (a professor at Texas A&M). Needless to say the saddest day of my life was followed by the happiest day of my life. Papa’s favorite fishing rod was placed against the chapel during the ceremony and the men in my family danced with me during the song that had been reserved for my Papa. Chris and I paid for most of the wedding so we relied on friends, family, and fraternity brothers for help. After a short and sweet ceremony performed by our friend, guests enjoyed a food truck, my brother-in-law’s homebrewed beer, wine, a signature strawberry cocktail , and a cotton candy machine. Then the dancing came and lots of it. We just wanted to dance and laugh throughout the night. We both agree that the favorite part of the day was seeing all the little details that friends and family helped make, but seeing two families and sets of friends come together on our big day was extra special.
