The Downtown Bryan Association announces the installation of the HeARTbeat of Bryan Art Project on Friday, October 2 in conjunction with First Friday. This art project was inspired by the 15th Anniversary of First Friday, which will be celebrated on October 2. The HeARTbeat of Bryan Art Project showcases local artists and highlights the vibrant art community of Bryan.
“First Friday started because of the art community in Downtown Bryan,” said Katelyn Brown, Interim Executive Director of The Downtown Bryan Association. “When we started planning for this celebration, we knew that art needed to be at the center of it. Downtown Bryan is the heart of our community so what better way to celebrate than through this HeART project.”
The Downtown Bryan Association worked with the Texas A&M University College of Architecture’s Fabrication Laboratory to make 15 4×4 feet wooden hearts and selected 15 local artists to paint the hearts. Artists were asked to draw inspiration from the arts, culture, and community of Bryan. The hearts will be scattered throughout Downtown Bryan during October First Friday. Those selected artists are:
Greta Watkins (The Frame Gallery/Parker Astin Arts Center)
Le Hale (The Purple Turtle Art Studio)
Jeremy Thompson (Beast Syndicate)
Cliff Collard (Arsenal Tattoo)
Letitia Alston & Iva Banik (Parker Astin Arts Center)
Krislyn Koehn (Arts Council Bryan Artist in Residence)
Lisa Urban (Parker Astin Arts Center)
Sarah Blackmon
Kaitlyn Dunn
Charles Wallis
Maria Leyva
Jane Sherman
Hailey Herra
David Sites
Members of the community are invited to come to October First Friday to see the completed hearts on display. A map of the heart locations and details about the artists can be found here. Samples of the hearts are attached.
