Brazos Feed It Forward
Information provided by Brazos Feed It Forward
Brazos Feed It Forward is a grassroots community fundraiser that seeks to utilize the generosity of the citizens of the Brazos Valley to support the frontline workers in the battle against Covid-19. Donations from private and public supporters will go to fund prepared meals from local independent restaurants for those who are risking so much to help protect us. Through providing nourishment to our frontline workers, we show our gratitude and hope to feed both their body and their spirit. This is truly a cycle of benevolence that is a win/win for the whole community.
BSC Local Flavor, an organization of locally owned independent restaurants, started organizing restaurants to participate in providing food for front line workers in the middle of March. Unaware of these efforts, local business owner, Hugh Stearns, began raising money to provide the same kind of support using a model developed in Denver. It did not take long for the two efforts to merge into a single community focus.
Stearns explains, “This is a virtuous cycle of rare form. Those people putting themselves on the front lines providing service to support our community in these difficult times deserve so much gratitude. One such group is our locally owned independent restaurants. In the midst of struggling to save their businesses the restaurants of BCS Local Flavor were also thinking about how they could serve their community. With a single donation, we can support our local restaurants and other front
line workers like nurses, doctors, and grocery store workers. The beautiful thing is that our locally owned independent restaurants put up to three times more money into our local economy. You would be hard-pressed to find a better stimulus.”
Brazos Feed It Forward exists to:
– Provide nourishing food & gratitude for the frontline workers in our local battle with Covid19.
– Provide a means for the community as a whole to connect to and support the important work being done.
– Provide support for our locally-owned restaurants and their staff, which in return stimulates our economy.
Owner of Amico Nave and Shipwreck Grill, Wade Beckman said, “ My prayers are that this crisis never reaches the point of truly having a large number of people that are in need of basic food however I am passionate about helping as many folks that need it financially as well as folks that are in the clinics and hospitals.”
BFIB is partnering with The Bubba Moore Foundation, a long-standing nonprofit community partner, to ensure donor confidence with transparency and fiscal accountability. They also have partnerships with both Baylor Scott & White and CHI St. Joseph’s Hospital, other local food providers and government agencies.
Please email us if you have businesses that would be interested in receiving donations. Donations will be processed through the Bubba Moore Memorial Group. All donations are tax deductible. Just go to www.bcslocalflavor.com to donate.
