Our story started out as a set up for two of our other friends. It was Josh’s birthday weekend and all his friends planned a getaway to camp out and ride 4-wheelers. My friend was interested in Josh & Josh’s friend was interested in me, but in the end, we were the ones who fell for each other. During our nearly 4-year courtship, we both worked full time jobs while putting Josh through Firefighter & EMT School. The hiring process was more than difficult, but we were blessed with TWO opportunities; Josh became a firefighter for both the Navasota and College Station Fire Departments within a few months of each other.
I have loved Cinderella since my first trip to Disney as a kid, so Josh had planned on popping the question in December 2013 on a carriage ride through Santa’s Wonderland. When we both became ill with severe bronchitis, the proposal was pushed back to January 2014, when, sadly, the park was closed. On that day, I had come home from work to find one of our dogs with a particularly interesting black box around her collar. When I realized what it was, Josh dropped to one knee and very eloquently proclaimed “I just can’t wait anymore! Will you marry me?” He was so excited to show me my “Cinderella Ring,” shaped in the form of a crown!
We decided to get married on 12/13/14, the last sequential date of our lifetime! We chose the theme “Country Christmas” but I was sure to squeeze my love of Cinderella into our magical day including silver glitter slippers! After our ceremony at the church in which we LITERALLY tied a knot (in lieu of a unity candle), we, along with our guests, danced the night away under a Christmas light and burlap-adorned ballroom! Of course, it wouldn’t be Christmas without handmade ornaments for our guests and a little snow for our big sendoff! I always thought my prince would ride up on a white horse; instead, God sent him to me on a big red fire truck… and I wouldn’t want it any other way!
