Simon and I met at work, we are both archivists at the George Bush Presidential Library. He “officially” asked me out in February 2011, we had a great time and have been inseparable ever since.
We had only been dating for three weeks when my Dad got critically ill. Simon was there to support me while my Dad was in the hospital and then when we lost him. I knew then that he loved me and would always be there for me.
We got engaged on our one and a half year anniversary. We celebrated by making dinner at his apartment. After dessert, he surprised me by saying he had a question to ask me, he got on one knee and proposed. It was a huge surprise and of course I said yes!
We decided to get married in Bryan because it played such a large part in our relationship. We also decided we wanted to use as many small businesses as we could as vendors. We picked Downtown 202 as the venue because we loved the look and feel of the space and it went great with our shabby chic look.
After trying to do everything on my own, I realized I wanted to get some help with all the detail and decor of the wedding. I decided to go with Ashley & Company for planning, linens, and decorations. My coordinator, Caitlyn, understood the look I was going for and was able to interpret my vision for my wedding in a way that I never could.
We chose Bobbi with Unforgettable Floral because she was able to understand exactly the look I wanted. She also helped me remember my dad in a very special way with a burnt orange tulip that I gave to my mom to honor him, he was a huge University of Texas fan. We looked for a photographer for a while and kept coming back to Crystal Littrell, her work is amazing and we knew she was the one to capture our special day. Cake Junkie provided our cakes and did a wonderful job! They were able to create the grooms cake from just some ideas we had, and the wedding cake could not have been more perfect. Our day was truly a special time with our family and friends, and I could not have asked for a more perfect day.
