The Texas Recreation and Parks Society’s Institute and Expo has traveled across the state for decades but has never found its way to our community. Until now.
After winning a highly competitive bid process, College Station is honored to host the TRAPS Institute and Expo Feb. 15-18 at the Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center. We’ve worked with the state organization’s staff and volunteers to ensure we showcase the best our community has to offer.

The Texas Recreation and Park Society is a nonprofit educational and professional organization founded in 1937 to advance professional parks, recreation, and leisure services in Texas. Its mission is to improve the quality-of-life industry through Connections, Advocacy, Resources, and Education (CARE). The society serves as a clearinghouse of information and resources to help with a range of challenges facing our profession, such as programming, grant and aid applications, coordinating events, promoting projects, advocacy and legislative awareness, job postings, and professional development and training.
Conference attendees will be greeted with a logo design that gives the nod to our Mayor’s Monarch Pledge. The tribulations of the last couple of years have challenged us all to change, transform, and emerge from past ways of thinking. That especially rings true for the parks and recreation industry, which has changed how business is conducted and transformed programs, events, and outdoor spaces to meet needs.
The more than 600 attendees at the conference can earn continuing education units throughout the week while learning from top professionals from across the country. Dr. John Crompton, a College Station City Council member and a world-renowned expert in the field, will speak to the general body to kick off the conference on Feb. 15. Later that day, 132 park operation professionals will compete in the maintenance rodeo in irrigation, mowing, and backhoe events.
We’ll show off some of our community gems through evening socials and scheduled tours, including the Gardens at Texas A&M, Veterans Park & Athletic Complex, the Fun for All Playground, Kyle Field, and more. In addition, the entire general body is invited to the Howdy Social at the Texas A&M Hildebrand Equine Complex.
We encourage you to welcome these professionals with the radical hospitality we’re known for providing to all our visitors.
