Alex and I met in the second grade at church. We grew up together in College Station, attending the same schools, church, and eventually started dating our freshman year of high school at A&M Consolidated. We then finished high school and both moved to Abilene to attend college at Abilene Christian University. Our “I like you” turned into “I love you”, and on our five year anniversary (which we spent in Paris while studying abroad) decided to get married the next summer. Alex proposed on that following New Year’s Eve at his parents’ house, the place where we shared our most special memories of our blossoming relationship. He prepared a delicious dinner, read me notes we had passed to each other between classes in high school, and gifted me with a Bible with our married names engraved on the front, that’s when I knew it was happening! He then showed me five letters he had written, each one upon which was written different milestone anniversaries and one that said “Right Now.” So he led me out to the bench in his backyard where we had shared our first kiss and read me the “Right Now” letter and got down on one knee, asking me the sweetest question I’ve ever heard! Our wedding truly reflected our relationship and values. Though we had a large wedding, there wasn’t a guest we didn’t both know since we shared the same friends. The vibe of our wedding was homemade and romantic. We wanted it to feel like a beautiful family gathering, not a fancy, formal affair. There were lots of flowers and greenery, candles, and twinkling lights. The ceremony took place in a field under the trees and the reception in a gorgeous white Amish barn. Everything in the wedding was done by different special people in our lives, the food catered by two of our close friends from Abilene, the cake by my mom’s best friend, the flowers done by one of our church friends growing up, the pies made by family members, the music played by a friend from college, and all of the decorations/favors made by me and my grandmothers. We had breakfast for dinner, breakfast tacos, gourmet waffles, and a coffee bar! Lots of homemade pies and cake for dessert. Instead of a huge wedding party, we just had my three sisters and his three brothers, to keep it simple and really special. The evening was whimsical, magical, and full of love.
