Camp Hearne Historic Site proudly announces the launch of its newest historical activity, “Das Kaserne,” a prisoner-of-war escape experience that invites participants to step back in time and uncover the challenges faced by prisoners behind barbed-wire fences during World War II.
Translated as “The Barracks” in English, Das Kaserne offers a captivating exploration of the daily lives of WWII prisoners. Groups are immersed in a 30-minute challenge, navigating through historical objects, crafted replicas, hidden codes, and clues, all aimed at unlocking the secrets to a successful escape from a Texas WWII prisoner-of-war camp.
Participants are encouraged to assemble their teams and embark on a mission that requires a blend of investigative, analytical, and teamwork skills. The hands-on learning experience promises to provide unique insights into a remarkable chapter of local WWII history.
Set in a separate building, the escape activity recreates the Camp Hearne barracks space of a POW named Walter. As Military Police Escort Guards, participants must uncover clues hidden in Walter’s bunk space to prevent future escapes before the Officer of the Day arrives.
To enhance the experience, participants are recommended to begin their adventure with a free tour of the Camp Hearne Exhibit. Please note that The Barracks activity requires a scheduled appointment, to be confirmed in advance, with a $20 donation per person for participation.
Gather your team! Groups, comprising a minimum of two and a maximum of eight participants with a minimum age requirement of 14, can secure their appointments on Saturdays at 12noon, 1:30pm, or 3pm starting January 13, 2024.
