Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra™ is pleased to present “Tangos & More” at the First Baptist Bryan Church on May 16, 2021 beginning at 5:00 pm. The BVSO™ world-class musicians and Music Director Marcelo Bussiki will be joined by internationally acclaimed bandoneón artist Julien Labro. CHI St. Joseph Health has graciously partnered with the BVSO™ to be the official sponsor of the 2020-2021 season. The evening has been made possible with the support of the Gilbert & Thyra Plass Charitable Trust.
The first half of the program will also feature the BVSO performing La Création du Monde by French composer Darius Milhaud and the enchanting Divertissement by fellow countryman Jacques Ibert. After intermission the evening turns to the dramatic as special guest Julien Labro and the orchestra will seize everyone’s attention with an intensely expressive performance of Astor Piazzolla’s Five Tango Sensations and Adiós Nonino.
Labro has established himself as the foremost accordion and bandoneón player in both the classical and jazz genres. Deemed to be “a triple threat: brilliant technician, poetic melodist and cunning arranger,” his artistry, virtuosity, and creativity as a musician, composer and arranger have earned him international acclaim and continue to astonish audiences worldwide.
“Labro is in my opinion, one of the most versatile bandoneón players in the world. He is utterly comfortable playing tango, jazz, bossa-nova or original classical compositions. Working with him will be a treat,” said Bussiki.
This concert will have limited seating capacity in order to allow enough space for attendees to practice social distancing if they choose. The BVSO also encourages, but will not require, patrons to wear masks. Additional masks will be on hand to whoever would like to have one. If any patron is concerned about attending the event, it is recommended they instead take advantage of the LIVE STREAM / VIA VIDEO ticket option.
The LIVE STREAM / VIA VIDEO ticket option allows ticket holders to both enjoy the performance as it happens in real time and/or watch the recorded concert for one week. Patrons who purchase this option will conveniently get a link in their emails gaining them access to the concert.
