If any or those scenarios sound interesting, then this exceptional, one-day event is for YOU!
Brazos Valley beekeepers invite everyone to join them for the 2024 Fall Bee School. Doors open at 7:00am and classes begin at 8:00am. The annual school is just weeks away, scheduled for Saturday, September 14th. Across the country, honey bees have been on the decline and the Brazos Valley Beekeepers Association is teaching others how to “start strong” bee colonies in the state of Texas and beyond, and then “stay strong”! The goal is for more
potential beekeepers to take advantage of this exceptional educational opportunity to learn how to safely raise and protect the bees. Participants will have the opportunity to take at least six classes throughout the day, selecting from over 40 different classes taught by master beekeepers. Classes range from beekeeping 101, beekeeping as a source of income, how to work with beeswax, to leasing hives for Ag valuation. An exciting new addition to the school this year is a Honey Show! Beekeepers are invited to enter their honey bee products into the competition to be judged by American Honey Show Council judges. The entry categories include extracted honey, photography, and honey cake (items baked with honey).
This school will also include a Bee Exploratorium – a unique hands-on display of Beekeeping glossary & beekeeping items, optional live hive and smoker lighting demonstrations, and 30 vendors, all in a one-day event to be held at First Baptist Church Bryan (3100 Cambridge Dr, Bryan, TX 77802) on Saturday, September 14th. Fajita lunch is included with each preregistration. Early bird registration is $80/individual, $135/couple, $15/youth with a registered adult and is available through August 31st. A 20% discount is also offered as a thank you to area first responders and military. Must preregister and bring a valid ID to present at check-in. This one-day annual school completely benefits the Youth Beekeeping Program.
This program provides a two-year apprenticeship in beekeeping through hands-on experience, knowledge through seminars, field trips and special training. Ultimately, after meeting the criteria of the program, eligible youth receive all necessary equipment as well as a bee hive. In addition there are several scholarship opportunities available to youth in the program at high school graduation time.
