This is one of those life stages you’re never really prepared for, but you’ve dreamed about since you’re a little girl. Three years ago, I put on my big-girl-panties and made the move to America from Chiang Mai, Thailand. Through God’s great blessings, I some how found the most handsome, adventurous, down-to-earth, well-traveled, hilarious, sensitive, God-filled man this earth has ever seen. His name is Tyler Eidson. I fell in love with his family and his heart. He teaches me to worry less and play more and he shows me what a relationship based in honesty, communication and love looks like.
He came to Thailand and fell in love with my home, my people and my family. Then -BAM- all of a sudden, there’s a big ring staring at my face that’s paired with an even bigger question: “Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me, Asia?” My brain doesn’t register the ring at first, but the tear ducts have no problem reacting in full waterfall force. My mind pieces together all the romantic and thoughtful moments carefully planned earlier that evening.
The letters from my dad, the significant places around town, the reflections upon our life stages, the deliciously planned dinner and dessert – and now, this ring and that question. I stare into the eyes of my best friend and squeak out the one word I’m sure will influence the rest of my life. “Yes.”
There were no hidden photographers or rose covered blimps in the sky. It was just the two of us on a dock, at dusk, looking out onto a quiet, still lake. Tyler said that this place was a representation of our lives starting together. It was a clean slate and a fresh start. There was just me and him with God at the center. He gave me a wedding planner binder that reads, “I want a marriage more beautiful than my wedding.”
Now that our dream day became very much a reality, Tyler and I struggle to describe our wedding day. For starters, the big man upstairs turned on the outdoor air conditioning and held back the rain/heat during the Texas summer. The decorations and dinner menu reflected our two worlds coming together. The petting zoo set-up camp and a dinosaur scavenger hunt commenced to set a playful tone to the day. Our wedding crew strung 20,000 twinkling lights in the park trees and created an event worth a thousand pins on Pinterest. This day looked fairy-tale-perfect, but more so, it legitimately felt like a mini-preview of heaven. Love was everywhere. We had zero stress in planning our wedding because of the generosity, teamwork and time our families gave us. Both our worlds collided with perfect harmony as people we loved, from all around the world, formed genuine relationships with each other. A community of God’s people affirmed us as we promised our hearts to one another. We will cherish this beautiful and sacred day for the rest of our lives.
