Community Field Day Promises Friendly
Competition And Wholesome Family Fun
Information provided by City of College Station Parks & Recreation
What do you remember the most about your elementary school days?
A typical response to that question is “field days.” We fondly recall the fun times competing against classmates and teachers and the joy a little friendly competition creates.
For many, field days initiated an interest in organized sports such as football and basketball as they grew older. For others, those chummy elementary school competitions were the last time they experienced that sort of camaraderie.
Take heart — the field day is back thanks to the Lincoln Recreation Center’s free Community Field Day from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, June 26.
Participants can enjoy a classic field day experience with appropriate activities for all ages and abilities, including a tug-of-war, sack races, an egg toss with water balloons, a 50-yard dash, and more.
The activities — other than tug-o-war — will be split into age groups under 12, 13-17, and 18 and older. The top three finishers in each activity are awarded ribbons. We’ll only crown one winner in tug-o-war, so gather your family and compete for bragging rights. Registration for each activity takes place on the event day.
The Brazos Valley Council on Alcohol and Substance Abuse will provide carnival-style games such as cornhole and a football toss station. They’ll also have snow cones, popcorn, and cotton candy machines. Street Legendz Motorcycle Club will sponsor the food, and Charity the Clown will perform balloon art.
We encourage you to load up your friends and family and join us for an evening filled with fun and memories.
