Although we are committed to providing high-quality parks and recreation programs and events to residents, we couldn’t do it without the irreplaceable support of volunteers.
We need your ideas, energy, and perspective — regardless of your skills or interests.
You must be at least 16 years old to volunteer unless otherwise noted. Volunteers are required to complete a waiver and volunteers younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Here are four opportunities for you to help this fall:
Annual Fall Fest & Haunted House (Oct. 28)
The Lincoln Recreation Center hosts its Annual Fall Fest & Haunted House on Thursday, Oct. 28. Multiple volunteer shifts are available from 4-9 p.m. to help with set-up, carnival games, face painting, joy jumps, and more.
Volunteers are encouraged to wear family-friendly costumes and closed-toe shoes. All shifts are outdoors, and volunteer vests are provided. You can part at the Wayne Smith Athletic Complex at 107 Holleman Dr., which is only a short walk away. Sign-up online or by calling 979.764.3779. The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 22.
Basketball Coach (Nov. 29-March 10)
Teach basketball fundamentals and help kids develop skills while learning the value of hard work, practice, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Experience isn’t required — we provide the resources you need for a fun and successful season.
The league runs Nov. 29-March 10 and requires a three-day-a-week commitment. Games are played on weeknights between 6:30-9:30 p.m., and Saturday practices are between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Apply online or call 979.764.3486. You must be at least 18 years old and complete a background check.
Christmas in the Park (Dec. 3-4)
Christmas in the Park returns Dec. 3-4 to Stephen C. Beachy Central Park. Multiple shifts are available from 5-11 p.m. each day to help with hayrides, cookies and chocolate milk, photos with Santa, arts and crafts, snow slides, and more. Dinner is provided.
All shifts are outdoors, and volunteer vests are provided. Parking is available at Post Oak Mall (JC Penney side), and shuttles run from 5-11 p.m. Sign-up online or by calling 979.764.3724. The registration deadline is Friday, Nov. 19.
Group Service Projects (All Year)
Help clean and beautify our community! Worthwhile single-day or annual projects are available for any group size or type. Projects include park and creek cleanups, planting, or weeding. Staff reviews your request and identifies the best project for your group.
Groups must have at least one adult supervisor for children under 18. Complete the group service project form and email it to parks@c stx.gov.
