United Way of the Brazos Valley is frightfully excited to host its annual Boo! Book Bash at Destination Bryan’s Halloweentown event on October 27 starting at 4:00 pm.
This Halloween-themed book giveaway will feature free books for children of all ages, including infants, grade school students and teens. Children will be able to select their own book based off their interests and reading level.
“United Way is dedicated to helping children in the Brazos Valley develop a love of reading early,” said Kat Gammon, Vice President Community Impact at United Way. “Events like this help get more books in the hands of more children and it’s amazing to see the kids get so excited to read about topics they’re passionate about.”
Two-thirds of children living in poverty grow up with no books at home. Studies show that children who grow up with access to books in their homes have a better chance to reach a higher level of education than those who do not. United Way of the Brazos Valley seeks to improve early literacy by ensuring every child has books in their home.
Last year United Way of the Brazos Valley distributed 25,000 children’s books in the Brazos Valley though their Early Literacy Programs including Book Bash Giveaways, Books and a Blanket and Baby Bundles.
United Way of the Brazos Valley would like to thank its generous sponsors including the Brookshire Brothers Charitable Foundation, Clifton C. and Henryetta C. Doak Charitable Trust, Junior League of Bryan-College Station, PNC Bank and Nina Astin Winkler Charitable Trust whose generous donations make Boo! Book Bash possible.
