When local softball enthusiastic Greg Hutchinson created the Budweiser Softball Festival with 24 teams in 1986, no one could have guessed it would grow into the largest regular-season USSSA adult slow-pitch tournament in the nation.
The festival was recognized by USSSA as the Tournament of the Year in 2010 and has been featured on Fox Sports Net’s “Softball 360” program.
A total of 163 adult slow-pitch softball teams will participate in the Annual Summer Budweiser Softball Festival Friday through Sunday at Veterans Park & Athletic Complex, Stephen C. Beachy Central Park, and Bryan Regional Athletic Complex.
College Station and Bryan have hosted the event twice annually for all 36 years, and we expect 4,564 visitors for the weekend. The estimated economic impact will be almost $1 million.
The tournament begins Friday evening with the Home Run Derby and Men’s 35+ division bracket play. On Saturday, all divisions start double-elimination bracket play, which won’t finish until 3 or 4 a.m. on Sunday. The champion will be crowned late Sunday night.
The highest division will be Men’s B, but we’ll also have Men’s C, D and E, Women’s B, C, D and E, Mixed C, D and E, and Men’s 35 Major.
