UPDATE:
Books and a Blanket had another successful year! Maggie and Harper were able to hand out 12,030 books or 802 crates to our area children.
They have even bigger goals for 2015! Anytime you’d like to donate new or used books, feel free to drop them off at our office, The Crystal Park Plaza.
Bryan Broadcasting is happy to announce we are now a drop-off location for Books and a Blanket!
Books and a Blanket started off as a simple family project, designed by two local young sisters, Harper and Maggie. The girls are avid readers with giant hearts. After seeing children in their schools who also loved to read but lacked the ability to do so at home, they decided to create little mobile libraries. They gathered crates and filled each one with 15 books and a warm fleece blanket. Because what’s better than curling up and reading a good book?
In their first year, they were able to distribute 119 baskets to local kids. Last year, that number grew to 330. Going into their third year, the girls have a goal of 988. They deliver these crates during the winter break in January, so there’s still plenty of time to help Maggie and Harper.
You can donate books grades pre-K through 6, donate new or home-made blankets, or make a donation to their cause. You can also find the pair at first Friday.
Other drop-off locations and partners for Books and a Blanket include U-Paint It, St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Blue Baker, KBTX, CW8, and Lock-N-Roll Storage.
