In October of 2014, after months of extreme fatigue and abnormal blood tests, Melissa Ruffino was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. A Bryan, Texas native, Melissa was a member of Chi Omega and graduated from Texas A&M in 2004. Within 48 hours of her diagnosis, Melissa began chemotherapy. Currently, there is no cure for this type of leukemia and a bone marrow transplant is the best chance for a healthy life.
It has become Melissa’s mission, and that of her family and friends, to raise awareness about bone marrow match screening. They are looking to give back in thanksgiving for this gift of life, offered up by a total stranger. Please consider joining the Be the Match Registry in honor of Melissa and her donor.
The donation drive will be held Friday, February 27 at the Chi Omega House from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. It’s as simple as a form and a cheek swab. Patients just like Melissa are searching for their match! It could be YOU! Anyone 18+ is encouraged to stop by.
Be the Match Brazos Valley has also set up a fundraising page to help other patients here in town cover the cost of finding a match.
Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to save a life!
