Whether you’ve never picked up a tennis racquet or yours has collected dust over the years, it’s never too late to experience the potent benefits of playing tennis.
Tennis is an exceptional lifetime sport that’s fun and easy for kids, couples, families, and older adults. The high-energy game is considered one of the healthiest activities for people of all ages and delivers significant physical, mental, and emotional benefits.
Here are five reasons to incorporate tennis as a regular recreation activity:
- It engages your mind and body at the same time. The tactical aspects keep your mind occupied while your body gets a fantastic workout.
- The constant movement and action burn calories, build muscle, increase bone strength, improve flexibility, fine-tune coordination, and enhance overall fitness.
- It’s terrific for mental health because it requires alertness, tactical thinking, and problem-solving.
- It’s a social sport that encourages interaction and communication. And it’s an excellent way to gather with old friends or make new ones.
- You can play it from a young age into your later years.
College Station Parks and Recreation offers programs to help you become an active tennis player. You can learn the basics, sharpen and improve your skills, and play matches against competitors through tennis lessons for participants five years and older.
If you already play tennis, we encourage you to take advantage of the 14 lighted tennis courts for recreational use in five of our community and neighborhood parks. The courts at Bee Creek Park and Brian Bachmann Community Park also are used for pickleball, another lifetime sport that provides a chance to connect, learn, and play.
