2021 Paint Trends That Inspire & Delight
Article By Jen Zweiacker, Zweiacker & Associates
After spending much of the last year in our homes, it’s no surprise that homeowners are looking for ways to revitalize their interiors. Whether it’s to get their homes ready for sale or to fall in love with their existing home again, homeowners are grabbing paintbrushes for a low-cost, high-impact way to update their living spaces. Here are a few paint trends on the rise that we think will stick around for a while (and delight homeowners and buyers alike).
Bored with plain white walls or looking for a versatile palette that is appealing to homebuyers? Warm, earthy, yet refined neutrals have made a comeback. Neutrals are always a timeless choice, but neutrals with warm undertones are inviting and add energy to tired walls. Another benefit of warm neutrals is their ability to add depth to a space. Consider using warm neutrals in kitchens, entryways, and open living spaces.
ZA Warm Neutral Picks:
A) Behr Almond Wisp (PPU5-12)
B) Farrow & Ball Jitney (No. 293)
C) Benjamin Moore Kingsport Gray (HC-86)
Bring the outdoors in with cozy yet invigorating greens. Nature-inspired green shades easily create a soothing, rejuvenating, lived-in atmosphere. They exude calm but have an underlying brightness that is refreshing for lower kitchen cabinetry and multifunction rooms.
ZA Cozy Green Picks:
A) Farrow & Ball Sap Green (No. W56)
B) Behr Jojoba (N390-3)
C) Sherwin-Williams Jade Dragon (SW 9129)
Maybe not for the faint of heart, but guaranteed to wow – deep, lush jewel-toned palettes can quickly transform any space. Dark colors tend to advance and often make rooms feel cozier, so they work well in formal dining areas and home offices. Or pick a light neutral wall color and use deep colors for accentuating window trims, fireplaces or accent walls.
ZA Evocative Jewel Tone Picks:
A) Sherwin-Williams Urbane Bronze (SW 7048)
B) Farrow & Ball Brinjal (No. 222)
C) Behr Nocturne Blue (HDC-CL-28)
Choosing paint colors can be fun, but it’s not always the easiest home task. Before grabbing a million samples or heading to the paint store, we recommend taking the time to consider the overall effect you want to achieve in the room and throughout your home. Establishing the mood you want to create will help organize your efforts and streamline the process.
One way to “try on” new paint colors before you commit is to purchase small canvases from a local arts and crafts store and paint a few of your favorite choices on the canvases. Be sure to paint at least two coats on each canvas. You can move the canvas from wall to wall and room to room to see how different lighting impacts the look and feel of the colors.
